" Are you sick of always reading reviews of the same bands at the newsstand? There is so much music out there, oftentimes we find ourselves simply perched at the tip of the iceberg. Here is your pick-axe. Break through to the other 90% of the music realm..." |

- 11:04 p.m. *sigh* has it really been a month since my last entry? not to sound cliche, but it seems as if time has been slipping through my fingertips lately. perhaps i am just throwing myself far too much into my new job... coming up for air, though, i realized (a la a friend tonight, actually) that the roxy music concert is upon us tomorrow night. i have been struggling with whether i should go or not. there are some very distinct reasons why i do and do not want to, so i find myself, indecisive. PROS: a) it is a reunion tour of possibly one of the greatest bands that has ever lived. they have always had their chops so i doubt the musicianship will suck and that classic showmanship of manzanera and his axe and the ultra-suave ferry crooning his soul out should be worth it. b) its roxy music, damnit! sure they probably won't play my favorites from their debut album and "for your pleasure," but i suppose i could deal with that. besides, if they skipped over all that "avalon" hubbub, the crowd would probably leave (though i'd give my right arm to hear some of manzanera's solo stuff in their set). c) how long has it been since they've toured? hmm, let's see, i was a geeky catholic schoolgirl, so what 1982 or so? what if they never tour again? CONS: a) it is at the demon-spawned park "chastain" (a venue which i have missed many of my favorite bands play at, by the way, not to single out the roxie doxies in any way) -- the place is great for some cheese, wine, and handel, but oh-so-terrible for any rock setup. b) it's supposed to rain and, for an outdoor venue, that just makes things plain unpleasant. have i gotten that old? c) pretty big dilemma: i have no tickets. they've not sold out, mind you, but they are as frighteningly expensive as many of the modern ticket prices are. my friends and i considered one of two plans: 1) buy the dreaded, cheap lawn "seats" (which will probably be a nice, slick slab of mud tomorrow evening) or 2) pray some enterprising season ticket holders are milling around trying to sell off a pair of tickets to a band their little snobbish minds could never get their head around. hmmmm, we'll have to see. d) did i mention they were playing "chastain" park? *hiss* *sigh* now if eno were there...
